DARE New Composer’s Forums develop emerging composers of the future
Designed to bridge the gap in the opportunities for new composers to test their work in a professional context, unpublished composers have their piece developed through workshops with the full Orchestra of Opera North.
“It’s not every day you get to hear your music played by a really great professional orchestra, and test your ideas properly.”
Jacob Thompson-Bell, new composer
“It was really valuable to meet the musicians and to hear their suggestions for how my work could be improved.”
Edward Caine, new composer
“It’s a benefit to the orchestra as well as the new composers because it keeps us in touch with new music – it’s good to try out new techniques.”
Catherine Lowe, oboist
“It’s a great experience for someone studying composition. Watching the Forum and following the music on my own copy of the scores was a rare opportunity that definitely makes me think differently about how I’ll approach my own work.”
Ella Macens, composer
